Playtime for Olunga as Kashiwa keeps alive promotion hopes

Kenyan international Michael Olunga was up for 70 minutes as his Japanese second tier side Kashiwa Reysol picked a 1 – 0 win over Zweigen Kanazawa in a Saturday 20 July league match.

Brazilian forward, Cristiano, scored the only goal of the game, to keep Kashiwa joint top on 43 points, with Kyoto Sanga only staying top via a better goal difference.

Sixth straight win

It was the sixth straight win for Kashiwa and their seven straight unbeaten outing as the team seeks a straight return to the Japanese top flight, having been relegated last season.

With seven goals netted this season, Olunga is the team’s lead scorer, having played just 14 matches. Cristiano is second with six goals from 23 matches.

Ayub Timbe

Meanwhile, in China, another Kenyan international, Ayub Timbe will be in action later on Sunday 21 July as his Chinese top flight side, Beijing Renhe faces Shanghai Shenhua.

Renhe is on a run of six straight losses which has seen the team drop to the relegation region after managing just 11 points from 18 matches.
