Bandari Football Club goalkeeper Michael Wanyika has been added to the goalkeepers’ roster in the national team Harambee Stars ahead of the upcoming African Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifier against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars.
Wanyika, who joins John Oyemba and James Saruni, takes up the place of his former number one at club level Farouk Shikalo who has since decamped to Tanzania’s Young Africans hence ineligible to feature for Harambee Stars in the tournament which is a preserve for local-based players.
The shot-stopper, who has previously featured for Kakamega Homeboyz FC, formed part of Coach Bernard Mwalala’s goalkeeping unit that included Shikalo, Mustapha Oduor and himself.
It’s day three of the Stars’ preps ahead of the departure date- Saturday 27. They play Taifa Stars in Dar Es Salaam for the first leg match on Sunday.
An aggregate victory over Tanzania sets up the Harambee Stars against Sudan in the second and final qualifying round.
The return match will be played a week later, on August 4, at the MISC Kasarani.
