Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia are on a signing spree. After the confirmation of Ivorian Gislein Yikpe Gnamian the club on Friday 26 July revealed that it has secured the services of Ghanaian Francis Afriyie.
A striker, Afriyie, born in 18 January 1995, joins the Kenyan giants from Mexican third tier side Murciélagos FC.
In a post on its Facebook page, the club did not divulge details regarding the Ghanaian’s contract but with his arrival, the club’s quota of foreign players for its KPL assignments is full.
He joins Ugandans Shafik Batambuze and Hashim Sempala, Burundian Francis Mustafa and the Ivorian Gislein.
Afriyie featured in nine matches for the Mexican side in the 2017/18 season, scoring two goals in five starts and four substitute appearances. His last match at the team came on Saturday 31 March, 2018.
He previously featured for Ghanaian side Bechem United in the 2017 season, scoring two goals in 10 matches before heading to Serbia to join top flight side Vojvodina, where he didn’t get playtime, before being sent on loan to Murcielagos.
Gor Mahia is preparing for an assault on the CAF Champions League, seeking to hit the group stages of the competition for the first time ever and the pronounced transfer activity comes just days after head coach Hassan Oktay cast a doubt at the strength in his team ahead of the new season.
