Kenya must fall, Tanzania forward Bocco declares ahead of CHAN qualifier

Simba SC forward John Bocco, the man who will skipper the Tanzania national team, Taifa Stars in the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Kenya on Sunday 28 July, has termed it a must win game for his country.

The two nations face off from 4pm EAT at the Dar National Stadium and Bocco, who was a member of the team at the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) that was beaten 3 – 2 by Kenya, says they can’t afford another loss, especially now that they are playing at home.

Prepared well

Speaking ahead of the match, Bocco said they have prepared well enough for the match and called on all Tanzanians to rally behind the team, forgetting about the result in Cairo at the 2019 AFCON.

“We are a good team and I believe we are capable of stopping Kenya. They beat us in Egypt but this is now another game and we will be playing at home so they must fall.

“My call is on our fans to forget what happened in Egypt and rally behind us because we have to win this to make the return leg manageable,” he said.

Change of guard

While Tanzania have had a change of guard on the technical bench after the AFCON meeting with Kenya, a majority of players who did duty at the tournament remain in the team and Bocco sees this as an advantage.

Nigerian Emmanuel Amuneke who led the team in Egypt, where they lost all group matches, has since been replaced by Ettiene Ndayigajire.
