Kenya U23 international Alwyn Luheni Tera was not in the match day squad as his Georgian Eronvuli Liga side, Saburtalo Tbilisi, saw its UEFA Champions League experience ruthlessly ended by Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday 30 July.
Carrying a 2 – 0 lead from the opening leg played in Georgia a week earlier, the script was well written for Saburtalo and a 3 – 0 thrashing at Maksimir Stadium in Zagreb was not a surprise.
Tera, younger brother to Luis Misiko, who until last season was at Posta Rangers, joined the list of Kenyan players who have featured in the Champions League, after playing two matches in the earlier rounds as Saburtalo made a first appearance in the competition.
On Tuesday 16 July, Tera featured as a second half sub in the 1 – 3 home loss to Moldovan side Sheriff then he earned a start against Dinamo Zagreb at home on Tuesday 23 July, lasting 57 minutes in the clash.
With the Champions League elimination, Saburtalo will drop to the Europa League, where they will face Armenian side, Ararat in the third qualification round and hoping to win and advance to the playoffs before getting to the more prestigious group stages.
