Zesco reveal reason for Akumu absence from CAF CL squad

Anthony Akumu was left out of Zesco United’s CAF Champions League squad – released on Monday – for the upcoming preliminary round qualifiers for the tournament’s group stage, a decision that raised eyebrows over the midfielder’s future with the Zambian outfit.

But via a Facebook post released hours later after the squad announcement, the club has revealed that the Kenyan international was left out of George Lwandamina’s 22-man squad as a result of having sustained a knock during training.

Jesse Were and David Owino, the other Kenyans in the team as well as Ugandan national and former Sofapaka forward Umaru Kasumba, were all included in the squad that is set to play against Swaziland outfit Green Mambas in the first round.
