Kenyan international Michael Olunga scored three goals as he helped his team in the Japanese second tier, Kashiwa Reysol hit Renofa Yamaguchi 4 – 1 on Saturday 10 August.
The massive win, which saw Olunga take the match ball home, ensured Kashiwa consolidated their leadership of the log, now with a four point buffer and placed the team in prime position in the chase for promotion back to the top flight.
Olunga opened the scoring in just the third minute and went on to double Kashiwa’s lead in the 61. Brazilian forward Cristiano restored Kashiwa’s two – goal cushion in the 69th minute, just four minutes after Ryoma Ishida had pulled one back for Yamaguchi.
Olunga finished the business with a stoppage time strike, to see him hit a tally of 11 goals so far in the season. He is the club’s top scorer for now, and just five goals behind the league’s top scorer, Korean forward Lee-Yong Jae who plays for Fagiyano Okayama.
