Kenyan Premier League (KPL) coaches have one more reason to look forward to the 2019/20 season, this after the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) managed to secure an extension with Fidelity Insurance for the Coach of the Month awards.
The award, which has been issued each month of the regular KPL campaign for two seasons now, will extend to the coming season after the two parties signed the agreement on Wednesday 14 August.
Kshs 75,000 award
In the agreement, the sponsors will continue availing Kshs 75,000 for the coaches voted the best in the month, as well as Kshs 65,000 for SJAK’s administrative duties.
Coming at a tough time economically for Kenyan football, the extension is a very welcome step and the SJAK chair, Chris Mbaisi acknowledges it will go a long way in not only motivating coaches but improving the game.
“I want to thank Fidelity for the far we have come in this initiative. Looking at it critically the coaches we have awarded have made further career steps and we may have Francis Kimanzi and Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno running in the national team sooner or later,” Mbaisi said.
At the event, it also emerged that Fidelity Insurance is looking at the prospects of having an end year award for coaches.
