Kenya school’s U19 national football champions St Anthony’s Boys Kitale began their charge toward the 2019 East African title with a resounding 4-0 win over Lindi SS from Tanzania on Friday 16th- a duel played out at the
Sheikh Abeid Stadium in Arusha.
The Solidarity Boys were pooled in group A alongside holders Buddo SS from Uganda, Standard High School Zzana, JKU and Lindi against whom they played the opening fixture if the regional games last evening.
Captain Tyson Kapchanga, despite having a lackluster nationals outing a few weeks ago, was the star of the show netting a hat-trick to dim the hapless home side at the Sheikh Abeid Stadium.
Kapchanga struck early in the game, a 9th-minute drive that gave the Kenyan representatives a good start. He would make it 2-0 before the break.
Winger Duncan Odhiambo then scored a third to compound to Lindi’s woes but his captain was not done yet, completing his hat-trick towards the match’s denouement.
The day one win takes the Solidarity Boys to the top of Pool A, as more matches are played today. Holders Buddo take on STAHIZA as Jinja SS play LDK from Rwanda. Alliance will play Vwavwa.
Dagoreti High School, who took second place at the national games, are in Pool C and will have their first match on Sunday against Ruwiko.
Kenya has three girls teams representing the country and will have two of them locked up in an all-Kenyan encounter today from 9 am. Arch Bishop Njenga Girls and Nyakach Girls playing out on 17th from 9 am. The two met in this year’s girls national semi-finals with Nyakach winning 2-0.
Itigo will play LTCR Mushasha from 11 am today.
