Just two weeks after being appointed Gor Mahia head coach, Englishman Steve Pollack has already guided his team to a first trophy, the KPL Super Cup and he believes the team will keep getting better with every game it plays.
On Sunday 18 August at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Pollack guided the team to a 1 – 0 win, bagging the regular KPL season curtain raiser despite his team going a man down in the second half following Tobias Otieno’s red card.
In his post match comments, he lauded his charges for their organization in the game against a side he termed strong and physical, assuring that his side will plan better when they meet next time.
“It was not the prettiest of games; we tried to play football though and I am happy with the result and the attitude of the players, especially after we went down to 10 men.
“We did much better in the second half and I know they will get to understand more and more how I want us to play with or without the ball. The development of the game will come every other week we play and we will become better and better,” he noted.
Pollack’s third game in charge of Gor Mahia comes this weekend, when they get to host Burundi’s Aigle Noir in the CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg. The two drew 0 – 0 in Bujumbura on Pollack’s first appearance on the touchline.
