KCB FC have concluded their transfer business ahead of the upcoming 2019-20 season with a total of nine players having been brought onboard.
The bankers, who also have a new technical bench that will be led by former Gor Mahia assistant coach Zedekiah Zico Otieno, have gone for a mixture of experience as well as raw youthful talent as they prepare for their second season in the topflight since being promoted back to the division in 2018.
The new recruits are, Enock Agwanda signed from Sony Sugar, immediate former Mathare United keeper Allan Owiny, Kisumu Allstars duo of Ian Motanda and Moses Odhiambo, Pascal Ogweno from Gor Mahia, youngster Paul Regan from Busia Olympics and Sofapaka duo of Stephen Waruru and Dennis Odiambo.
Speaking to Soka on the club’s latest transfer business, KCB’s assistant coach Godfrey Oduor revealed that the team’s strategy was to change the narrative where for a long time, the team has been a feeder to other clubs which has stunted their growth.
“Our new technical bench is a young one and we are very ambitious and want to achieve big things with the club. This you can see with the players that we have brought onboard.
“We have concluded our transfer business with nine well scouted players who we feel will help take us forward.
“For several years now, KCB has been seen and thought of as some sort of a feeder club for other teams but we have now changed that narrative as we are now able to go to the top teams in the league and prize away players from there.
“KCB is a brand which has to be felt and we are making the right steps towards achieving that,” he concluded.
Oduor and Otieno were appointed after the conclusion of the previous season to replace Frank Ouna and Sammy Pamzo Omollo who helped guide the bankers to a 10th place finish.
KCB will begin their KPL season with an away tie against Sony Sugar away in Awendo on August 31 but before then, the team is still finalizing on its pre-season preps and is set to take part in a four team friendly tournament against rival league sides AFC Leopards, Wazito FC and Mathare United.
The three-day tournament will kickoff on Wednesday 21 at the GEMS International Cambridge School.
