The 2019 East Africa School games will not have any Kenyan team in both the boys and girls final as the last team standing- Dagoreti High School from Nairobi, have been felled in the semi-final by Ugandan school Buddo SS this evening in Arusha Tanzania.
Friday morning had Kenya with a massive three representative in the semi-finals of both boys and girls but Itigo and Nyakach each bowed out agonizingly close through post-match penalties.
Itigo- second-place finishers at this year’s national games held in Kisumu, managed to hold Mukono High School from Uganda to a barren draw in regulation time but were undone in the shootouts when they couldn’t covert their 9th kick. Mukono won 9-8 in the shoot-outs.
Meanwhile, Kenyan champions Nyakach Girls produced the more thrilling of the semi-finals when they locked horns with Kawempe Muslim Girls, the Plateau Queens having their tie end in a 2-2 stalemate.
Penalty shoot-outs then followed and the champions fell 4-3 meaning the final plays out as an all-Ugandan affair.
Dagoreti, the only non-Ugandan school in the boys’ semi-final, fell 1-0 to Buddo SS, the very team that had beaten Kenyan champions St Anthony’s Kitale 1-0 in the group stages.
The final sees Buddo versus St Mary’s Kitende who beat Jinja SS 2-0 in the other semi.
