Baraza to use break to seal loopholes ahead of Gor Mahia clash

Among the teams that completed the first weekend of the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) without a point was Chemelil Sugar, who fell 1 – 3 away to Zoo FC in Kericho and head coach Francis Baraza has taken lessons from the clash ahead of Match Day 2, where they face Gor Mahia.

For the coach, the international break comes at an opportune moment; he has 13 days to prepare for the clash set to be staged at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu and he assures of addressing the shortfalls witnessed against Zoo FC.

Collapsed defensively

In Kericho, the coach concedes his side collapsed defensively in the second half while a number of good chances also went begging, factors he has assured of working on.

“It was a good duel in Kericho and we even went to the break at 0 – 0. We however allowed them spaces in the second half and they punished us. Defensively, we did not get it right when we had to but I was impressed by the midfield and attack.

“We will definitely have to work on that,” he noted.

Tough but not impossible

In the last 20 matches, Chemelil have not managed a win over Gor Mahia and going to this game, Baraza knows it will be tough but not impossible. He is keen to see his players put the loss to Zoo behind them and give their best against the champions.

“We have time to rectify before we get to face Gor Mahia. They are the champions and we respect them but we will go there looking to shock them; we can’t afford a repeat of the mistakes we did against Zoo,” he noted.

In the last 22 meetings, Chemelil have picked just two wins over Gor Mahia.
