National Super League (NSL) side Vihiga United finalized their transfer business for the 2019-20 season with a deadline swoop of Ebwali Secondary School captain Samuel Tawayi.
Tawayi captained Ebwali to the semi-finals of this year’s Coppa Coca Cola School Games and comes in to provide options for Sammy Okoth’s charges at the heart of the defence.
The young centreback is also the younger sibling to defender Zablon Khaemba who joined Vihiga from Ebwali also in January of 2017.
Vihiga have been busy with a restructuring process to prepare for their return to the second tier after two seasons in the topflight and have now brought onboard 11 new players while letting go of a further 16.
The Vihiga County funded side have also restructured their technical bench with Okoth, who was appointed on interim basis at the end of last season being given the job outright with former Kenyan international Nick Yakhama coming in as the team’s Technical Director and former Kakamega Homeboyz keeper Collins Oduor the new keeper trainer.
The changes seem to have had the desired effect as Vihiga have begun the season in the right footing with a 3-1 win over Migori Youth on Sunday.
