The 2018/19 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) joint top scorer Enosh Ochieng will be looking to replicate, if not bettering his performance in the season, and has admitted to mounting pressure.
Enosh scored 20 goals in the season, before three were controversially scrapped off by the KPL’s Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Commission (IDCC).
Apart from bagging the Golden Boot at the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) awards gala, he was also nominated for the Most Valuable Player’s award.
While he says his performance last season has put a lot of weight on his shoulders, he acknowledges that it is not all unbearable, with supportive team mates, and notes that he makes it easier by just working for the team.
“Pressure is always there; in my case it is bigger because of what I achieved last season but then I have to be mature enough to contain it. I believe in doing the job for the team first; that way I will be remembered more,” he says on the club website.
Enosh was key in Ulinzi Stars’ 2 – 0 win over Kisumu All Stars on the opening weekend of the 2019/20 season, and he hopes the good start is a precursor for better times ahead.
“Now we have a few days to rest before we get to the next game and we want to keep the focus and pick maximum points there too,” he adds.
Ulinzi Stars will next take on Sofapaka, on Saturday 14 September at Afraha Stadium. In the corresponding fixture last season, Enosh scored twice as the teams went on to draw 2 – 2.
