Homeboyz going for a top-five finish, also playing for the league title

Kakamega Homeboyz FC got off to a perfect start over the weekend in their Kenyan Premier League opener against sibling rivals AFC Leopards at the Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday. A team that hardly lost any key starters from last season, Homeboyz dispatched Leopards 1-0 courtesy of a lone strike from Muyoti’s former forward at Nzoia Sugar- Stephen Etyang.

The area of depth- so says Muyoti, was their main challenge from last season- one in fact, in which neutrals believe Homeboyz performed well. He wasn’t carried away himself and wants to outdo last season’s performance.

”This season the aim is to work towards last season’s targets which we never achieved. The transition was not great when I came in and I lacked depth,” says Muyoti who joined midway from Nzoia Sugar FC.

”This was a big challenge which I have since rectified in the pre-season,” he adds, revealing that going for the ultimate prize is a possibility.

”We have enough depth to challenge for the championship. I want a top-five finish, being a champion also part of the plan.

Other than Etyang, Homeboyz have also acquired the services of such attack-minded players as Shami Mwinyi, Ronald Omino, Christopher Masinza, and Noah Wafula. With this lot Muyoti aims to bolster his previously potent forward line that boasted Ahmed Ali Bai, Allan Wanga, Peter Thiong’o, Selemani Manjenga, David Okoth, and Moses Mudavadi- all five of them retained for the new season.

”We are an attacking team and during the recruitment, I focused on this. Going forward we will be much better in the attacks this season,” insists the former Kenyan International.

The Kakamega based side, however, did lose some key players in the pre-season preps with such names as Maxwell Ravel, Sosthenes Idah, Daniel Sakari and Osborne Monday missing from their roster for this campaign.

In Sakari’s right-back place, Andrew Waiswa- who makes a return to Homeboyz, was given a start on Sunday. They have hardly struggled in the central defense positions and George Odiwour partnering Kennedy Onyango did the business over the weekend. In attack, Ravel may not be missed much.

They next travel to Posta Rangers on September 15th.
