Okwi to captain Uganda against Kenya as Onyango withdraws from Nairobi friendly

Egyptian based forward Emmanuel Okwi, will captain the Uganda Cranes in their friendly match-up against Kenya in the absence of first choice skipper Denis Onyango who pulled out of the friendly earlier in the week.

A huge chunk of Uganda’s foreign based players have pulled out of the friendly in a similar situation to that of Harambee Stars who will also be without captain Victor Wanyama as well as several of the team’s foreign based stars.

Aucho, Miya

Turkey based Farouk Miya and Egyptian based Abdu Lumala, two players who shone for Uganda as they reached the last 16 of this year’s AFCON finals will also not be available for this game though former Gor Mahia midfielder Khalid Aucho and Taddeo Lwanga, who is the teammate to Stars striker John Avire at Egypt’s Tanta FC, have confirmed their availability and will link up with the team in Nairobi.

Former AFC Leopards winger Allan Kateregga, who was part of the AFCON squad, was not called-up for this latest assignment as he is in the process of looking for a new club after being released by South Africa’s Cape Town City.

Cranes left Uganda for Kenya on Friday morning for the game that will be played at the MISC Kasarani on Sunday. Tickets for the game will retail at a flat rate of Kshs 200.
