Talanta FC suffered their first loss of the new 2019-20 National Super League (NSL) season when they went down 1-0 away to Bidco United in a round 3 fixture played at the Thika Sub-county Stadium on Friday 13 September and head coach Abdalla Juma has praised his charges for their showing despite the upset.
Emmanuel Mogaka scored the only goal of the game from the spot after Talanta custodian Joel Bataro had received his marching orders for a reckless tackle which gave the hosts the chance to break the deadlock.
Before the dismissal, Talanta, who are sponsored by the Communications Authority of Kenya, had placed themselves in with a chance of coming away with at least a point and maintain their unbeaten start.
After the game, a disappointed Abdalla, who is in his third season in charge, sought to look at the positives that his charges showed throughout the game.
He said, “The red card disrupted our plan which was to come here, keep at bay our opponents and do so while creating our own chances. The loss of course is a disappointment but we have four points from our opening three games and it is not bad.
“My boys put up a brave fight especially when at 10-men because we contained them and could have grabbed a point in the end. We concede the defeat and now turn our attentions to our next fixture where we will be aiming for three points and nothing short of that.”
Abdalla’s charges next take on Coast Stima, possibly at the Camp Toyoyo on Wednesday 18.
For Bidco, the win sends them to the top of the standings at least for a few hours. Anthony Akhulia’s charges have won all three of their opening fixtures without conceding a single goal. They next face Nairobi City Stars also on Wednesday.
Round 3 of the NSL is currently ongoing with all 10 matches of the round being played across different venues on Friday.
