Even-Stevens in Machakos as both Tusker and Mathare remain in search of first win

After a two week break to pave way for the international calendar, the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) returned on Saturday 14 September with five of the weekend’s seven matches being played out across different venues in the country.

Two of those matches were scheduled at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos but both failed to produce a winner as both matches ended in similar 1-1 scorelines.

Tusker FC and Mathare United opened the day’s action at the ground and after a barren opening stanza, the game came into life in the final 17 minutes with Timothy Otieno’s opener from the spot in the 73rd minute, being cancelled out by a Klinsman Omulanga effort deep in stoppage time.

After their opening day 5-2 thumping at the hands of Gor Mahia, Tusker needed to respond in this fixture against a team they have not fared well against for the last four seasons with last year’s campaign, the Brewers earning just a solitary point out of a possible six.

The draw also leaves Mathare in search of their first win of the season having drawn their opener against Bandari.

In the late game at the ground, Posta Rangers and Kakamega Homeboyz both battled to a share of the spoils also.

Peter Thiong’o had Homeboyz in the lead with a first half effort.

Two more matches will be played on Sunday with AFC Leopards entertaining Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani with the other match seeing KCB take on Kisumu All Stars in Machakos. Both matches are set for 3PM kickoffs.

Below are all of the other results of the day with only Sony Sugar producing a win;

Ulinzi Stars 0-0 Sofapaka – Afraha Stadium

Western Stima 0-0 Wazito – Moi Stadium, Kisumu
