Ulinzi Stars – Sofapaka fire blanks as Sony wins Millers Derby

Ulinzi Stars and Sofapaka played to a goalless draw in a wasteful 90 minutes as the Afraha Stadium on Saturday 14 September, as Sony Sugar picked three points on the road, against Nzoia Sugar at the Sudi Stadium on the same day.

At Afraha Stadium, Ulinzi Stars should have sealed the game in the very early stages but missed chances from Boniface Okinyi, captain of the day Bernard Ongoma and striker Oscar Wamalwa saw Sofapaka survive.

On the other end, Sofapaka twice went close through Kepha Aswani but Ulinzi Stars managed to clear.

Best chance

The best chance of the game came Sofapaka’s way deep in the second half after Bonaventure Muchika’s mistake set Aswani through but the forward took to long before pulling the trigger and when he did, he could only hit the post.

The result leaves Sofapaka on one point from the opening two matches while Ulinzi Stars add one more to earlier three picked on Match Day 1.

Nzoia Sugar 1 – 2 Sony Sugar

Meanwhile, in Bungoma, Sony Sugar picked their first three points of the season, courtesy of a 2 – 1 win over Nzoia Sugar at the Sudi Stadium.

Stephen Onyango scored the opening goal in the 40th minute to hand Sony a first half lead then Salmon Omollo doubled in the 65th minute before Wepo Brian pulled one back for the hosts in the 83rd minute.

At the close of the second round, Nzoia Sugar have picked a point from their two matches so far.
