A meager seven goals were scored in the seven Week 2 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) matches staged between September 14 and 15 2019. In those matches, only one ended in victory as James Nandwa’s SoNy Sugar FC picked three points in Bungoma at the expense of hosts Nzoia Sugar FC.
From these matches, the star of the weekend was Stephen Cisse Onyango, who not only got a goal for the visiting millers but also contributed to Salmon Omollo’s goal, which sent them 2-0 up.
The match ended 2-1 as Nzoia grabbed one late through Kevin Juma – a goal assisted by Brian Wepo. Onyango’s opener in the match had former Sofapaka winger James Kasibante at the end of the assist.
A draw in Machakos pitting Tusker FC against Mathare United produced two goals. One from Tusker captain Timothy Otieno who confidently stepped up to the penalty spot with Luke Namanda having been brought down in the box.
The Brewers, still smarting from their Week 1 humiliation at the hands of holders Gor Mahia, were set to bag their first full set of three points against Mathare and needed to hold on for just one more minute in injury time. However, Klinsmann Omulanga had other ideas and salvaged a point for Mathare United, with James Kinyanjui teeing him up for the belter.
The final two goals happened at Posta Rangers-Kakamega Homeboyz contest in Machakos, another 1-1 draw, or better yet, another late equalizer.
Nicholas Muyoti’s Homeboyz side had done themselves well to spring into the lead through Peter Thiong’o’s breaker. Allan Wanga, wide on the right of their attack, had stretched the defense well and teed up the youngster for the opener.
The visitors then needed to hold on for just two minutes and would head right to the top of the Kenyan Premier League standings but a lapse at the death had Ken Mutembei whip a cross from the right flank and one headed home by George Bill Oporia.
