The 2019-20 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) will enter Match Day 3 with fixtures staged over the weekend of September 21 and 22 with all 18 teams expected to be active.
Kenya Commercial Bank FC head into the round as leaders, and face holders Gor Mahia, who alongside Chemelil Sugar FC, are the only two teams still on one match two weeks into the season. The Bankers play Gor Mahia in Machakos on Sunday from 4:15 pm EAT according to the league schedule.
However, to kick off round three fixtures will be one of the weekend’s top drawer contests as Ulinzi Stars travel to face Mathare United on Saturday from 2pm EAT in Machakos. The Soldiers played to a barren draw with Sofapaka last weekend and meet a Mathare side yet to taste victory in the new season. The Slum Boys have drawn both their opening matches.
Kisumu All Stars entertain Nzoia Sugar FC, and seek a first win against the side that plays well away from home. Henry Omino’s All Stars will definitely bank on their round two display against KCB that saw them grab their first top-flight point in a 0-0 draw on the road. Nzoia on the other hand, dropped points at their backyard to Sony Sugar FC and will definitely want to make amends in Kisumu.
Kakamega plays host to an epic clash pitting Wazito FC (hosts) against AFC Leopards Sports Club. Big-spenders Wazito are yet to win a match and will bank on Ingwe’s woeful form at Bukhungu as anchorage for their first victory. Both teams enjoy massive support in the region from where the 3 pm EAT kick-off clash will be staged and a full stadium is expected.
Sunday lines up a few more matches with Western Stima away to Posta Rangers in Machakos. Though missing two youngsters – Fidel Origa and Benson Omalla, who are out on duty with the Kenya U20 national team, The Powermen from Kisumu will go for their first three points against the mailmen – at least according to Coach Salim Babu.
Stima have drawn their opening two matches while Sammy Omollo’s Posta recorded a win in week one over Sofapaka and salvaged a late draw against Kakamega Homeboyz.
Homeboyz were the team closest enough to a perfect start to the season after week two but could not hold onto their lead against Posta Rangers who drew level on 88 minutes in the game at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
The boys from Kakamega now face Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday from 3pm EAT in Bukhungu and hope the SportPesa Super Cup winners come with just a few tricks up their sleeves. One of those could be Homeboyz’s former right full-back Daniel Sakari.
Zoo hosts Tusker in Kericho on Sunday from 3pm while Bandari have to deal with a trip to Awendo to face James Nandwa’s Sony Sugar.
Zoo and Bandari are the two teams to have been active the latest, with their game ending in a 3-2 win for The Dockers who came from 2-0 down at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Wednesday 18 September.
