Harambee Starlets get down to work ahead of Ghana clash

The Kenya women national team, Harambee Starlets kicked off training at the Utalii grounds on Monday 23 September ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games qualifier against Ghana on Friday 4 October.

A total of 17 players were in attendance on the opening day of training with the team expected to be full house in the course of the week


Quoted on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) website, Assistant coach, Jackeline Juma expressed her optimism in the team’s readiness for the game, as she guns for a good showing.

“I believe in my players’ readiness to get another win and proceed to the last round.

“Ghana is a tough team; we played them in 2016 and managed a 1-1 draw but with enough zeal and practice we shall be able to perform better in this game,” she said


Mwanahalima Adam, the team’s forward was instrumental in the last round of qualifiers as Kenya ousted Malawi 5 – 3 on aggregate. She hopes good fortunes smile their way again this time.

“I only urge my teammates to keep the momentum they had that led to our win against Malawi and we shall get a positive result against Ghana,” said Adam.

Meanwhile, Midfielder Vivian Corazone Aquino, issued a rallying call to fans to come and support them terming it a good source of motivation.


“To the fans, I urge them to come in large numbers and support us as we play Ghana since it serves a great motivation to us as the players,” said Corazone.

The first leg is set to be played in Ghana, with the team scheduled to depart on Wednesday 2 October. The second leg will be played on Tuesday 8 October at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.
