Kenyan internationals plying their trade abroad had a fine weekend in their respective teams’ matches staged between Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September, with Jesse Were, Michael Olunga, Erick Ouma and Jonah Ayunga all getting goals.
In Japan, Michael Olunga hit his 15th and 16th goals of the season as his team, Kashiwa Reysol picked a 3 – 0 win over Tokyo Verdy on Saturday, to stay top of the Japanese second tier and on course for promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt.
First half brace
Olunga completed his brace in the opening half, with goals in the 29th and 37th minutes before paving way for Mao Hosoya in the 88th minute. Brazilian forward Cristiano scored the third.
In Zambia, Harambee Stars forward Jesse Were was on the score sheet as his team, Zesco United hit Tanzanian side Yanga SC 2 – 1 to dump the Tanzanian side out of the CAF Champions League.
Midfielder Anthony Akumu also featured in the match, while there was no appearance for defender David Owino.
In England, Jonah Ayunga scored his ninth goal of the season as his team, Havant & Waterlooville saw off Wealdstone 4 – 1 in a National League clash on Sunday to stay within the promotion playoffs bracket.
Marcelo on the mark
In the Swedish third tier, Erick Marcelo Ouma netted the second goal as his team, Vasalund IF suffered a 3 – 4 away loss to Carlstad United on Sunday. Ouma went on to play full time in the match, alongside another Kenyan born player, Anthony Wambani.
Meanwhile, still in Sweden, in the top tier, Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu featured for the entire 90 minutes as his team Elfsborg played to a 1 – 1 draw with AIK. In the game, Okumu’s debut, he picked a 70th minute yellow card.
