Posta Rangers Football Club held hosts Bandari FC to a 1-1 draw in a catch-up Kenyan Premier League (KPL) fixtured played on Thursday 3rd at the Mbaraki Sports Club from 3 pm.
Francis Nambute had given the visitors the lead in the 21st minute but this was canceled out by Shaban Kenga before the break.
The Dockers came into this tie on the back of a morale-boosting qualification into the third round of the CAF Confederation Cup out in Tunisia, and knew a win would send them straight to the top of the league standings.
William Wadri- the hero out in Tunisia, set up the match’s first chance in the 9th minute. The forward’s through ball to Hassan Abdallah couldn’t be tucked away for an early lead though. They would pay when Posta went forward.
Francis Nambute was the name for the mailmen on the score-sheet with the opener on 21 minutes. The former Kakamega Homeboyz striker made the most of a Marcellus Ingotsi cross to send Coach Sammy Omollo’s men into the lead.
Darius Msagha’s deflected free-kick in the 28th minute went inches wide with Adira Jairus in goal having dived the wrong way. Next up was Wadri, choosing to drive his free-kick over the wall but Adira stood tall for the visitors.
Before the break, however, Rangers- who had retreated to the back holding on for a dear lead, were punished by Kenga in injury time of the first half. The former Gor Mahia forward latched onto an Abdalla cross to make it 1-1.
Coach Mwalala withdrew goal-scorer Kenga at the hour mark for Wycliff Ochomo in the hope of some magic but none would come.
Despite seven additional minutes of play at the now rain-soaked Mbaraki grounds, no team would notch the winner and the mailmen head back to Nairobi with a point.
