Wazito FC are going for nothing less than a win when they take on Mathare United at the MISC Kasarani this Saturday in round 5 of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and assistant coach Fred Ambani says his team’s confidence levels are in the right place thanks to the win over Zoo FC last time out.
The off-season big spenders, claimed their first win of the season thanks to a 2-0 win over Zoo in Kericho in round 4, to ease the pressures brought about by their huge recruitment spending.
The win lifted Wazito to 10th on the log with five points and Ambani is hoping his charges can build on this with victory against Mathare.
“When you play well but you don’t get the desired result sometimes it affects your confidence. Last weekend’s win was very vital because it gives my boys the much-needed self-belief. When you approach matches confidently chances of getting the desired results are high,” Ambani is quoted as saying on Wazito’s official portal.
“We are going for maximum points. We want to build on last weekend’s win and get the three points on Saturday. We know that it will not be easy because we face a tough side but we are going to give our best to earn maximum points.”
Wazito will face off against a Mathare side that is one of four teams in the league yet to taste defeat this season. Salim Ali’s charges currently lie 9th with six points.
Mathare however have never claimed a win over the 2018-19 NSL champions in their two league meetings and suffered a heavy 4-1 loss in a pre-season friendly played before the start of the season.
