Round 5 of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) continued on Sunday 6 October with three matches scheduled, all of which produced winners.
Gor Mahia, Tusker and Sofapaka enjoyed a fruitful afternoon with wins over Zoo FC, Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari FC.
Gor returned to the summit of the KPL log after a hardfought 1-0 win over Zoo at the Afraha Stadium . Boniface Omondi struck the game’s only goal with eight minutes remaining on the clock to deal Zoo their fourth loss of the season.
The win, which also maintains K’Ogalo’s 100% start to the season with four wins from four, sees Stephen Pollack’s charges move up to 12 points on the standings, two points clear of second placed AFC Leopards while Zoo remain in 15th place with three points, separated only by goal difference from the relegation zone.
Elsewhere at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, hosts Kakamega Homeboyz were dealt a rude shock as Tusker FC claimed all three points in a 3-1 win.
Former Homeboyz forwards Luke Namanda and David Majak scored against their old club either side of half time with George Odhiambo opening his account for the brewers with a late finish. David Okoth scored for Homeboyz.
The win boosts Tusker who move up to 4th on the standings with 10 points while Homeboyz drop to 9th with seven points.
In another tie at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, hosts Sofapaka FC dealt Bandari their first loss of the season in heavy rain, courtesy of goals from Ugandan import Peter Lwassa and Brian Nyakan that rendered William Wadri’s equalizer a consolation.
The win, which is Sofa’s second of the season, lifts Batoto Ba Mungu up to 8th on the standings with seven points, just a point adrift of 7th placed Bandari.
