No dropping guard at Homeboyz ahead of Chemelil Sugar clash

Kakamega Homeboyz were the biggest winners in the sixth round of matches in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and after picking a 4-2 win over Wazito FC, the westerners are keen on building on it as they prepare to face Chemelil Sugar FC.

In the match scheduled for Saturday 26 October at the Chemelil Complex, Homeboyz will be facing the league’s bottom side, who are also winless so far in the season and have not picked a point.

Tricky clash

While they will be firm favorites in the game, Homeboyz defender Benjamin Oketch admits this remains a tricky clash and they can’t afford to look down on their opponents.

The fact that that the hosts will be seeking a first win means they will pose a bigger threat than the teams they have already faced, poses Oketch, who says they will employ great caution.

“It is a fact that a team that is seeking the first win holds the bigger threat. We are aware of that and we know just how unpredictable they can be; in a few words, I can say it is a tricky game,” he noted.

Walkover

In the last round, Chemelil gave away a walkover after failing to travel to Mombasa to face Bandari FC. This may offer additional motivation for them to go for the kill against Homeboyz, Oketch further notes.

The defender is a former Chemelil Sugar man and while he is excited at returning to Awasi, he admits it comes with some pressure. He however hopes he can aid his team to not just win but also bag a clean sheet.

Targets

“I have played there before and it is a good feeling going back, but it also comes with a weight of expectation from the fans. I know I will overcome that and help the team.

“Personally, the primary target is to get a clean sheet, and hope we can win it,” he added.

This season, Homeboyz have scored in all their matches. A win here could see them rise to second place.
