Just days after making changes that saw head coach Fred Ambani and technical director Stanley Okumbi dismissed, Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Wazito FC has named US national Melis Medo as the new head coach.
Medo, a former Sofapaka FC and Mount Kenya United FC coach was unveiled on Thursday 14 October, five days after the team lost 2-4 to Kakamega Homeboyz on Match Day 6 of the KPL.
Medo will be assisted by coach Hamisi Mohamed who stayed on after the Monday 21 October purge that saw Ambani leave the club.
Flanked by club CEO Dennis Gicheru, Medo promised to steer the club forward and joining the team on the back of a slow start to the season, he knows too well his work is cut out.
“I am looking forward to make this a good experience to all the staff, the players. With all the support available I believe we will do well. I am happy to be here and I appreciate the opportunity,” Medo stated.
Together with Medo, assistant coach Mohamed assured that the team will register better results as he promised full cooperation with the new man.
Medo’s first assignment at the team comes on Sunday 27 October when he leads the side against Posta Rangers at Narok County Stadium starting 2pm. He finds the team placed 13th on the 18-team KPL log with just six points from six matches.
