Jesse fires Zesco to 6th straight win as Ian Otieno keeps Arrows top

Kenyan International Jesse Were was on the mark on Thursday 24th as his side Zesco United- Zambian Super League champions, emerged 2-0 winners over Muufulira Wanderers FC.

Jesse, starting alongside countryman Anthony Akumu, found the back of the net in the 53rd minute- doubling United’s lead as Zimbabwean International Thabani Kamusoko had sent the hosts up at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Defender David Owino had meanwhile, been benched for the midweek clash.

The win is Zesco’s 6th of the season in as many matches, placing them second on the log to Red Arrows who have played a match more. Arrows, is home to another set of Kenyan Internationals in Andrews Tololwa and goalkeeper Ian Otieno. Otieno was himself in action on Thursday as Arrows dispatched Kansanshi 2-1 with a brace from Bruce Musakanya.

Before Wanderers, Zesco had dispatched Green Buffaloes 3-1, and Napsa Stars 3-2. Lumwana Radiants had taken a 2-1 fall at the hands of Zesco and Nakambala Leopards 3-0.
