Waweru fires Ulinzi back to winning ways as Sharks draw Nzoia Sugar

Ulinzi Stars got back to winning ways after a two – match lull with a 1 – 0 win over Tusker FC in a Match Day 7 clash staged at the Afraha Stadium on Saturday 26 October.

Meanwhile, at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma, Kariobangi Sharks and Nzoia Sugar played to a 1 – 1 draw in another Match Day 7 clash.

At Afraha Stadium, Tusker, on the back of three easy points in the previous outing as they earned a walkover, had a fine start but at the end of it, lost all points courtesy of a Daniel Waweru second half goal.

Missed chances

At the height of Tusker’s domination in the opening half, Ulinzi Stars goalkeeper Timothy Odhiambo had to pull a great save to deny Tusker skipper Timothy Otieno in a one on one situation.

Ulinzi Stars took cue and in a forward foray, Daniel Waweru broke in well and drew a foul from Eric Ambunya but his delivery was cleared by the Brewers defence.

Kelvin Thairu and Waweru also had big misses as the game wore on while Bonaventure Muchika and Boniface Andayi went close for the Soldiers with connections from corners floated in by Waweru but the opening half ended goalless.

Under heavy rain, Ulinzi Stars took control of the game in the second half, and especially after Oscar Wamalwa was introduced in place on Elvis Nandwa.

Waweru’s goal

When Waweru’s goal came, Ulinzi had peaked well and were knocking at Tusker’s goal. However, this came from a distance, about 40 yards out as Enosh Ochieng won possession in midfield, and Thairu allowed the charging Waweru to shoot.

He did it with a combination of power and precision, giving goalkeeper Emery Mvuyekure absolutely no chance and Tusker’s best efforts could not produce the equalizer.

Nzoia – Sharks

At Sudi Stadium, Leonard Kasembeli gave hosts Nzoia Sugar the lead at the half hour mark but Duke Abuya leveled matters in the 44th minute. There were no more goals in the second period, and the teams walked off with a point apiece.
