Gor Mahia will depart the country on Friday 1 November for their CAF Confederations Cup return-leg tie against DR Congo’s DC Motema Pemba and in the absence of defender Charles Momanyi, who is suspended for the tie, Maurice Ojwang has been summoned in his place.
Momanyi received a red card in the first-leg tie played in Nairobi last weekend, a situation that has thrust former Western Stima stopper Ojwang, who is returning from a spell on the sidelines with injury, into the 16-man squad for Sunday’s game set for the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa.
What Gor need to advance
Gor drew the game 1-1 and now need to win or seal a score draw of more than one goal to be able to advance to the Confed Cup group stages for the third time in succession, a feat never achieved by any Kenyan team.
Meanwhile, the 18 time KPL champions announced on Wednesday that they had penned a five year deal with Kisumu based state-corporation Agro Chemicals and Food Company.
The deal will see Agro use K’Ogalo’s brand to advertise its flagship products Patriots Gin and Vodka and in return Gor will earn Kshs 5 for every bottle sold of the alcoholic beverages. And in an act of good faith the company has also wired up Kshs 2m to Gor’s coffers to help the team prepare for the Motema game.
Below is the full contingent that will depart for Kinshasa comprising 16 players and six officials;
