Western Stima FC head coach Salim Babu is the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK)/ Fidelity Insurance coach of the months of August/September after guiding the Kisumu Powermen to an unbeaten start to the season. The monthly recognition comes with a personalized trophy and a cash award of Ksh 75,000.
Stima who currently sits 11th on the 18-team Kenyan Premier League (KPL) log, are still undefeated in Kenya’s top division and have amassed 10 points from 6 matches.
In the month of September, Stima won twice and drew once; a home draw against Wazito FC and two successive wins over Kisumu All stars and Posta Rangers. Salim had led Stima to a 2-2 draw in the league opener earlier in August.
The former SoNy Sugar FC coach who is now deputized by Hesbone Nyabinge at Stima, was elated at the award, further lauding SJAK for such noble gestures.
”I have won this award at SoNy and it is a great feeling. The players have worked really hard and it is their efforts that have made me become recognized. My Technical Bench has been supportive too and we have worked together very well,” Salim says during the award ceremony held at the team’s training base in Moi Stadium Kisumu.
He talks of a supportive executive office and a vibrant fanbase at Stima.
”The executive office has ensured everything runs smoothly at the club and that way it is easier to achieve good results. The fans are also a big part of the team and they have played a huge role in our home matches especially, a big thank you to them,”
Salim beat AFC Leopards coach Cassa Mbungo, Tusker coach Robert Matano and Bandari coach Bernard Mwalala to the award. The club- Stima, has enjoyed this particular award in recent years with former Coaches Henry Omino and Paul Ogai being previous winners.
