Wazito FC registered only their second win of the season on Saturday defeating Sony Sugar 4-3 in a KPL round 8 fixture played at the Kenyatta Stadium.
In the season’s second high scoring tie after Gor Mahia’s opening day 5-2 thumping of Tusker FC, it was Wazito striker Elvis Rupia who stole the show, netting a hattrick to slay a stubborn Millers side.
It is however Sony who took the lead in Saturday’s early kickoff through Kevin Omondi’s 30th minute effort. But the lead would not last long as three minutes later Rupia had brought Wazito level before doubling his and his team’s advantage in the 38th minute.
He would wrap up his treble a 60th minute penalty after he was brought down by Humphrey Okoti, this is after Johnstone Omurwa had put past his own net almost immediately after the restart.
Sony, who have had a torrid start to the season as financial difficulties have forced them to give away two walkovers, looked to be past their struggles in Machakos and had the scores at 3-3 with 20 minutes remaining through Omondi again.
The point will however not be forthcoming as former Sony man Derrick Otanga came off the bench to break the hearts of his former side with an 81st minute finish.
The win, which is coach Mellis Medo’s first in the two matches he has presided since his appointment, moves the side two places up to 11th on the log with 10 points while Sony remain 16th with 4 points.
