Kenya’s representatives to the CAF Confederations Cup, Gor Mahia and Bandari FC were both eliminated at the playoff stage after suffering defeats in the return legs of their ties on Sunday 3 November.
In Nairobi, at the Moi International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani, Bandari FC fell 0-1 to Horoya AC while Gor Mahia were 1-2 losers in Kinshasa, to DC Motema Pembe.
Bandari needed at least two unanswered goals to be able to advance after a 2-4 loss in the first leg but instead, they were overpowered at home and Ocansey Mandela’s goal proved the difference.
Horoya thus advances to the group stages on a 5-2 aggregate.
Gor Mahia ousted
In Kinshasa, Gor Mahia placed themselves in control of the tie with a ninth minute goal from Wellington Ochieng but that was canceled out just before half time by Ivan Bongonga.
In the 63rd minute, Junior Kone ensured the hosts advance with the crucial second goal after a fine run and exchange of passes from DC Motema Pembe forwards.
It will be the first time in three seasons that Gor Mahia miss out of the CAF Confederations Cup.
