Super sub Daniel “Van Persie” Otieno popped up with a minute remaining of normal time to score for Mathare United and secure a 1-0 victory for the slumboys against Gor Mahia in a rescheduled round 7 KPL tie played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Wednesday 6 November.
The former Sony Sugar man came off the bench to guide Kevin Kimani’s pinpoint corner past Robert Mapigano and deal Gor their first loss of the season that ends their 100% start to the campaign.
The goal is the former Gor Youth winger’s first for the side he joined at the start of the season from Sony Sugar and in turn helps Salim Ali’s charges maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
They now move up the standings and into 6th place with 14 points, a point behind second placed Gor and two adrift of leaders Tusker.
The game could not have come at a bad time for Steven Polack’s men who have had a torrid period for the last couple of days with news of unrest over delayed player salaries a key factor towards today’s performance as well as their elimination from the CAF Confederations Cup over the weekend.
