Mathare United were 3-2 winners over Sony Sugar in a round 9 KPL encounter played at the Green Stadium in Awendo on Sunday 10 November.
All five goals were scored in the second half with Mathare getting their goals through inform forward Daniel Otieno, captain Chris Oduor and Klinsman Omulanga while Sony almost forced a share of the spoils through goals from Salim Chacha and Stephen Onyango.
The win lifts Salim Ali’s charges to joint top of the standings with 17 points but that could all change by the time the round elapses while Sony remain second from bottom with 4 points.
Sony break deadlock
Sony, who have struggled this season with financial constraints playing a big part in this, broke the deadlock in a lively second half through Stephen Onyango in the 52nd minute.
But Mathare would restore parity eight minutes later in the 60th minute through captain Chris Oduor before taking the lead six minutes later via a Daniel Okoth strike.
Chacha would bring the Millers back level with five minutes left to play only for substitute Omulanga to grab the winner in stoppage time.
The win also prolongs United’s unbeaten start to the season.
