Ulinzi Stars leapt three places up the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) log to fifth place after a hard fought 1-0 win over Bandari FC at the Afraha Stadium on Sunday 10 November.
Oscar Wamalwa netted the only goal of the day in the 12th minute of the game, his first goal of the season, and handed Ulinzi Stars their fourth win of the season.
Struggling with a growing list of injuries ahead of the game, it was never gong to get better for hosts Ulinzi Stars, who were forced to an early change after Ibrahim Shambi, returning from injury, was forced off in just the second minute.
With what was later confirmed to be a heel injury would see Kelvin Thairu introduced early on but the Soldiers rose above the setback with Wamalwa scoring the winner.
Penalty shout ignored
Bandari had a first half penalty shout waved away by referee Judith Muhonja after goalkeeper Timothy Odhiambo and Dockers’ forward Yema Mwana collided in the box.
Meanwhile, in Kericho, Zoo FC picked a second straight win, beating visiting Nzoia Sugar 2-1 at the Kericho Green Stadium.
Derrick Anami and Dominic Ouma scored in the eighth and 40th minutes to hand Zoo the lead while Gaetan Masha scored in the 81st minute what would be the consolation goal for Nzoia.
