Former Harambee Stars defender Ezekiel Akwana will on Sunday 17 November 2019 launch the first instalment of the Wazee El-Classico tournament, which is premised on bringing together legends of the game in the country.
The first edition of the tournament, running under the banner of Legends Kujeni Tujibambe (Legends Come we Enjoy) will be hosted at the Stima Sports Club and will be a seven-aside competition.
Registration and prizes
The teams participating will have to register by paying Kshs 2000 while winner of the tournament will walk away with Kshs 10,000 and the runners up Kshs 5,000.
The former Mathare United, Sofapaka and AFC leopards left back said his target is make it an annual event to bring together former internationals to share experiences, keep in touch as well as networking.
There will be four groups with seven teams in each group then the top two finishers in the groups advance to the quarters.
According to him, among the former internationals set to grace the tournament include John Shoto, Omar Shaban, Lawrence Owino, Mathews Ottamax, Paul Ochieng, Gabriel Olang, Tobias Ocholla and many more.
GROUP A: Huruma sports FC, Barclays Wazee (A), Kibra Health Club (B), Thika Road Spurs FC, Identity Wazee FC, Wanyama Family FC, Wazee Hatari (B).
GROUP B: Ghetto Radio FC, AFC Legends (A), Barclays Fitt (A), Barclays Wazee (B), Eaton Towers FC, Eastleigh Wazee FC, Mess Wazee FC
GROUP C: Wazazi FC, Mathare Youth Wazee FC, Pipeline Wazee FC, Metro Wazee FC, Wazee Hatari (A), AFC Legends (B), Sunday Best FC.
GROUP D: Barclays Fitt (B), Nakuru ex FC, Mathare United Wazee, Kibra Wazee Health Club (B), Kingsize Wazee FC, SGR Wazee FC, Club Paris Wazee FC.
