The Kenya national team Harambee Stars will be facing off with the Pharaohs, of Egypt on Thursday 14 November in a 2021 AFCON qualifier, but head coach Francis Kimanzi will be without forward John Avire.
Avire, according to Football Kenya Federation, has pulled out of the match set for 7pm EAT at the Borg el Arab Stadium in Alexandria. The federation reveals that he cited personal reasons for his absence.
In recent times, the striker, who had a great time in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) last season, has been in the headlines not for the best reasons following a failed attempt to move to Egyptian side SC Tanta after the 2019 AFCON finals, in which he played for Kenya.
Since his failed move, which transformed into a saga that saw Robert Muthomi leave his post as FKF CEO, the youthful forward attached to Sofapaka has had no competitive football.
Meanwhile, all the other players save for Boniface Muchiri had checked in by Tuesday 12 November. According to FKF, the midfielder is expected to join his mates on Wednesday.
