Kenya will kickoff its journey to grace the 2021 AFCON tournament on Thursday against Egypt and the squad for the two teams’ Group G matchday 1 qualifier to be played at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria has been named.
Belgian based midfielder Johanna Omollo, who has not featured for the team since this year’s AFCON finals in Egypt, will start in a midfield three that also has captain Victor Wanyama and Lawrence Juma.
Omollo was one of Harambee Stars’ standout players at the AFCON in Egypt and grabbed a goal in Kenya’s only win at the tournament, the 3-2 victory over Tanzania. But has missed the two friendly games that Francis Kimanzi’s men have played against Uganda and Mozambique due to injury.
Upfront in attack, Japan based Michael Olunga will lead the line with Ayub Timbe and Erick Johanna in support.
The defence largely remains the same as in the last two friendlies with Kariobangi Sharks’ Samuel Olwande deployed at righback.
The game is set for a 7PM kickoff and will be live on KBC Channel 1.
