Mathare United’s Roy Okal is expecting a tough showdown between him and Elly Asieche when the Slum boys take on Sofapaka in the two teams’ round 10 KPL fixture set for the MISC Kasarani on Wednesday.
Okal, a defensive midfielder, will most probably be handed the task of keeping Asieche in check. The former Kariobangi Sharks man is Sofa’s heartbeat and has assisted four goals already to lead the goal contributions charts.
Okal has talked up the potential match-up as well as what he expects from a tie that brings together two of some of the best scoring sides this season.
“Elly is having a tremendous season so far but it is not a surprise to me because I know perfectly well his quality having played against him on numerous occasions. It will be a tough duel but it is not only him who we need to look out for,” Okal is quoted as saying on Mathare’s official portal.
“The league placings at the moment show that there is difference between the two teams but with all honesty there is little that separates us with Sofapaka,” the former Ushuru man continued.
Salim Ali’s charges sit in 4th place on the standings with 17 points, seven above 10th placed Sofa and though Mathare still have their unbeaten record intact, this tie against one of the league’s lethal sides has Okal cautious.
“All the matches we have gone up against Sofapaka have been explosive with goals being plenty as we are two attacking sides. But in the last couple of seasons we have found it hard in the past to keep them at bay.
“This season they have also shown that they are a lethal side but as a team we have prepared well and know what we have to do and it all starts with maximum concentration on game day. Failure to do so and we will get punished,” he said.
Mathare are winless against Batoto Ba Mungu in their last three encounters with last season’s corresponding fixture seeing them suffer a humiliating 4-1 loss.
