Kenya women’s national team, Harambee Starlets overcame Uganda’s Crested Cranes to finish top place of Group B and book a date with Burundi in the semi-finals in the ongoing CECAFA Women’s Championship in Tanzania.
Head coach David Ouma applauded his team for taking charge in the Thursday 21 November game and going on to win 3-0.
Goals by Mercy Airo, Mwanahalima Adam and Gentrix Shikangwa, saw Starlets finish their group stage schedule with nine points.
“I want to commend the determination in the players. They knew what was at stake and gave their best. They have to keep improving and maintain their best form,” said Coach David Ouma after the match.
Ouma had Airo in the starting team while resting Topista Situma and Gentrix who later came on as second-half substitutes.
“We scored early in the game. That gave us the confidence to manage the game. I am also glad that we rested some players and gave others a chance. Mercy Airo, Topista Situma and Gentrix Shikangwa are just some of the players who took their chances yesterday,” he added.
Up next is a semi-final battle against Burundi on Saturday 23 November at Chamazi Complex, as Uganda face hosts Tanzania in the other semi final match.
Meanwhile, the final is slated for Monday 25 November.
