For the second straight game, Ulinzi Stars had to rise from a goal down, this time playing to a 1-1 draw with Nzoia Sugar FC at Afraha Stadium in a Match Day 11 clash on Sunday 24 November.
Felicien Okanda netted the opener for Nzoia Sugar in the 33rd minute but John Njuguna rose from the bench in the second half to blast home the leveler in the 70th minute.
Okanda stole the ball deep in the Ulinzi box, reaping from a miscommunication from Ulinzi keeper Timothy Odhiambo and defender Brian Birgen.
While it seemed like an easy ball to clear, resulted in confusion in the defence and Okanda nicked the ball his way before slotting into an unguarded net.
Ulinzi Stars’ best efforts could not restore parity going to the break and coach Benjamin Nyangweso made a tactical switch at the start of the second half, introducing Njuguna, and later Ezekiel Okare.
With more numbers forward, Ulinzi started gaining control of the game and Njuguna did well to create space for himself in the 70th minute before firing off the bar to beat Humphrey Katasi.
Nzoia were lucky not to fall behind moments later when the keeper did well to tip over another Njuguna shot and a free kick from Daniel Waweru.
On the other end, Timothy Odhiambo produced a great save to stop a goal bound attempt from Okanda.
Meanwhile, in Narok, Sofapaka beat visitors Zoo FC 2-1 to register their third straight win under coach John Baraza.
