Kenyan Premier League (KPL) new boys Wazito FC and Kariobangi Sharks’ struggles continued into the 11th week of matches in the season after the two sides played out a 0-0 draw at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Monday 25 November.
Wazito FC had to finish the match with 10 men, after Karim Nizigiyimana was sent off in the 55th minute following a two footed lunge on Sharks defender Samuel Olwande.
Wazito FC will blame themselves for not bagging three points from the game, even after going a man down, though Elvis Rupia had a goal rightly ruled out for offside in the first half.
Right before his goal was ruled out, Rupia should have given Wazito the lead when he found himself well placed, with space and one on one with the keeper.
The forward however hushed his effort and Sharks keeper John Oyemba had enough time to make a point blank save to keep his team in the game.
Oyemba was at it again shortly afterwards, this time foiling Victor Ndinya’s attempt as Wazito upped the ante.
Oyemba was on hand again in the final minutes of the game, closing in on Rupia to force him wide in a one on one situation before getting a crucial touch to his curling attempt.
In the very last minute, Oyemba made an error, handling the ball outside the box to give away a free kick but Rupia would not make him pay for it as he blasted the free kick high.
The draw leaves either side on one win in the season and eight points with Wazito 14th and Sharks 15th.
