A blockbuster Saturday afternoon in the Kenyan Premier League saw two fixtures played in Nairobi and Machakos produce a total of 13 goals.
Sitting at the bottom end of the KPL log, both Chemelil Sugar and Kariobangi Sharks continued with their struggles this season as they respectively lost 6-0 and 5-2 to Wazito FC and KCB in matches played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos and Kasarani Stadium.
Bottom side Chemelil soaked in six at the hands of Wazito with striker Elvis Rupia helping himself to a hatrick in the rout. Pistone Mutamba, Derrick Otanga and Victor Ndinya grabbed the other goals as Wazito produced the season’s heaviest upset.
After being stripped of his treble against now disqualified Sony Sugar in round 8, Rupia provided the perfect response on Saturday and now has five goals, which could be eight if not for Sony’s relegation.
The win has Frank Ouna’s men in 11th place with 14 points.
Elsewhere in Nairobi at the MISC Kasarani, Kariobangi Sharks suffered their sixth loss of the campaign as a rampant KCB side ran out 5-2 winners.
New kid on the block Reagan Otieno, marked his first ever Harambee Stars call-up with a brace, scoring either side of halftime with Enock Agwanda, Simon Abuko and Samuel Mwangi adding the other goals.
Otieno has been named in coach Francis Kimanzi’s provisional squad for this month’s CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Uganda.
Sharks who scored first and went into the break tied at 2-2, got their goals through Julius Masaba and Duke Abuya.
William Muluya’s charges have struggled this season and sit second from bottom with eight points which is the complete contrast to KCB who lie in 3rd place with 18 points.
