Kenya out to defend continental title as COPA Coca Cola championship kicks off

The COPA Coca-Cola African championship begin today at Mpesa Foundation Academy in Thika- this being the second edition of the tournament. The first Edition was held in Nakuru in 2018 with Kenya emerging as winners.

This year’s tourney will be contested by 12 teams which are divided into four groups with each of the top two from the groups going to face off at knock out phase.

Kenya, who are the defending champions of the continental tournament, have Mozambique and Zimbabwe in Pool A.

Group A: Kenya, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
Group B: South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania.
Group C: Ethiopia, Namibia, Uganda.
Group D: Bukina Faso, Angola, Botswana

Knock-Out Phase

Winners from group A square it up against runners up from group C, Winner B vs Runners up group D, Winner C vs Runners up group B and Winner D vs Runners up group A.

Kenya seeks to retain its title won last year by St. Anthony’s Kitale in the boy’s section and Moi girls Nangili in the girls’. This year, the hosts will be represented by Serani High School in the boy’s category. Kenya’s first match will be against Zimbabwe later today.
