Harambee Stars’ new kid on the block came out of nowhere, admits Zico

A first ever national team call-up was handed to KCB youngster Reagan Otieno this past weekend as head coach Francis Kimanzi named his provisional squad for the upcoming CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup set for Uganda.

The winger, who can play across the front three with ease, was signed by the Bankers at the start of the season after attending the team’s off-season trials and so far has been a revelation with his coach at the club, Zedekiah Zico Otieno who also doubles up as assistant to Kimanzi, admitting that he had not known of Otieno before those trials in August.

Not aware

“He is one of the new sensations of this season,” Zico said, “We were not aware of him, he just came in for trials before the season started and we spent like two months assessing him where we immediately saw that he had something in him.

“He is a young boy with a lot of potential and I am really happy that he has been called-up to the national team which will for sure motivate him even further.”

After missing KCB’s first two league games, the former Busia Olympic youngster has gone on to become an integral part of his side’s rise to 4th on the KPL log and on Saturday, celebrated his call-up with a brace in the 5-2 thumping of Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani.
