With the ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) on Tuesday 3 December, which nullified the county Elections and canceled the planned national and sub-county elections, Football Kenya Federation has commenced the process of new elections.
First on the FKF program for the same was the official release of a new electoral code, which will guide the fresh polls. The new code was released on Saturday 7 December and is available for public discourse across the 48 branches (counties) of FKF.
The SDT in its ruling nullifying the county polls and canceling the national and sub-county ones, declared that the federation had not allowed time for enough public participation and thus with the new one, participation started Saturday and will run for a month, at the county level.
At the end of the public participation process, the federation will have a Special General Meeting on January 8, 2020 to deliberate and ratify the reactions coming from the engagements at the branches.
Relaxed financial obligation
Among the changes made to the electoral code, is that the federation has relaxed the financial obligations on nomination fees for various posts from the national to the sub county levels as well as the fees payable for appeals.
Apart from citing the insufficient member participation, the Tribunal also stated that the Electoral Board was improperly constituted. It noted that chairman, Prof Eliud Wamukoya and member Elina Shiveka should not be in the board.
