Eritrea demolish Kenya to reach maiden CECAFA final

Eritrea have reached their first ever CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup final after a convincing 4-1 win over defending champions Kenya in the two nations’ semi-final encounter played on Tuesday 17 December at the FUFA Technical Centre grounds in Jinja, Uganda.

An explosive second half from the Eritreans saw them score three times through Abel Solomon, Michael Habte and Robel Kidane to add on to Oscar Wamalwa’s own-goal in the opening half.

Despite the unfortunate own-goal, Wamalwa had briefly brought Kenya back into the contest with a goal that had Harambee Stars trailing 2-1 just seven minutes after the restart.

Francis Kimanzi’s charges, who topped their group with a perfect record to make the last four, will now await the loser of the other semi-final between hosts Uganda and Tanzania to know the team they will face in the 3rd place playoff.
